Dat Personal Blog of Sally Daskunk

Things are about to get... stinky.

9/22/2024: Hello World! I am a skunk!

Hello my fellow readers! Allow me to introduce myself. My name in the reaL world is "Kayla H." But, you can call me by my fursona name: Sally Daskunk.

I know that I have been on this site for 2 months without updating anything, (A lot of stuff just kinda happened in real life.) but I am ready to finally start my journey to reclaim my digital identitdy from the greedy hands of the major social media sites that is slowly ruining the internet experience. (I know that sounds harsh but trust me; its well justified.)

Here are 10 things you may not know about me!

  • I am currently in my early 30's. "Thats right, Im a 90's baby!"
  • Im a skunk furry. Relax!...Im one of the "sane-ish" ones. ...but I still hold many secrets :3
  • I just finished animation school. You can find some of my work here.
  • Im exploring web development and design. "Who knows? This could be my future job/side gig."
  • Ive been playing pokemon since 1997. "I saw pikachu came to shore and walked on stage! Who the *meow* are you?!" (This was an old internet joke.)
  • I used to be in culinary but I decided to get away from the choas of burning salmon and mentally breaking.
  • Im nerodivergent...
    and Trans (MtF)...
and non-binary at the same time
    ...So thats a thing.
  • I grew up in Chicago. (AKA the Windy City). "Its more like the subburbs of chicago...but it still counts."
  • I have size 15 feet...Im starting to run out of ideas.
  • I met Tony Hawk once in Canada. He was weird but nice.
  • So with that out of the way: let me tell you about one of my biggest goals on this website. Not only do I want to learn a new skill and explore a new hobby, but I also want to give my digital identity and my artwork a "proper home".

    A Quick Little Story

I had an epithany one day while scrolling instigram. I came to the realization that my artwork dosnt really belong on some big company's feed. My artwork is not made to gather likes or casually ignored by the masses. My artwork needs to be in the space online to "just breath". I want to give my content a place to just exist and not be drowned by millions of other posts from random people.

I know it dosnt make sense at the moment but I think over time; people would come to understand why I made this site.

...for now. I think its best to just back relax and watch my journey of creating my digital home.

10/5/2024: Unmasking, Smash Bros Ultimate and A Detox Manifesto.

Since last time, I had began to over indulge in one of my favorite special interests...Smash Bros. Ultimate for the switch. (specifically the intro theme song) A lot of people dont know this but us nerodivergent folx really like to listen/watch the same peice over and over again. I dont know why, but I think it is because us nerodivergent folx tend to find comfort in something familiar that we enjoy.

Besides my hyper fixations, I have also decided to go on a bit of "social media detox". Dont worry! Im not planning to stop codding or updateing the website, but I am going to cut back on interacting with the "Core Web" and focus more on this site (and other messanging apps) to build better habits for myself. Recently, I started to realize that some of the apps on my phone has been effecting me in real life. I just started to feel too distracted or too miserable by all of the constant news and ad's that keeps blareing in my face. You can learn more about my motivations in my Manifesto Page.

Yesterday, while I was plaaing my detox, I decided to give my Iphone an app morality check.

Outside of web surfing liberation, I have also been practiceing the art of "unmasking my autism". For those who dont know, I am nerodivergent (Autistic and Learning Disabled) and recently I am currently recovering from burnout. Recently, I just graduated from animation school after 5 long years of work. While I am proud of myself for getting my degree and finishing one of my life goals, it also introduce a new terror in my life: finding full-time employment. The tought of just trying to fit into the nerotypical corperate world, while trying to keep myself afloat, finding employment within a new feild that is currently struggling, along side with a bunch of adult problems in the process: I feel like my brain cannot really handle it. I guess this is one of the main reasons why I decided to go on a socail media detox. Its a chance for me to recover and reorganize my life for my next big step in a new career.

I have also been looking at inspiration from other nerodivergent creators who are going through simular life changes. One of my new favorite creators that I have been following is a_lilian who really helped me take the first few steps in unmasking the protective shell that I developed myself for the past few years. They are definatly a great channel if you looking for inspiration.

Thats all I have really to report for now, but I will keep everyone up to date on some other happenings in the near future.

    10/12/2024 Gathering Materials

Howdy Ho Everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the nice October weather we are having out here in Chicago. Things have been kinda quite on the front here. Most of my time outside of my day job as a barista is mostly just gaining knowledge about coding and some house keeping stuff to keep myself busy. (I will get more into that a little later.)

    Website Updates/News

    1. I frinally added a Custom Domain to this site! In the time of writing this, the domain only seems to work on the start screen but, it seems to be working. I had to invest in getting a custom domain and upgrading my neocities account but I think this would be a worth while investment in the long run. I will see if the rest of the custom domain works but in the mean time; I feel ligit and confident that this would be the start of a new era for sallydaskunk.com.
    2. Speaking of investments, I have also invested in some new books in some coding and graphic design. One of those books is HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites by Jon Duckket. I heard a lot of good things about this book from some of the instructional websites and I cant wait to tackle it durring my breaks at work. The other book is called Graphic Design for Everyone by Cath Caldwell. While I do have an animation degree, Graphic Design was one subject im not too familiar with. Im hoping to use this as a "crash course guide" to making the site look a bit prettier that the basic format. Who knows, this could lead to something more if I play my card right.
    3. Ive decided to make a schedule for these blog posts. I try to aim to bring a post every Saterday night if I can. The only exception for this month is on October 24th, I will be on a weekend trip to New York City with my dad to see The New Yorker Festival. Im really excited to see some of the sights and sounds of the city and enjoy a nice weekend out of Dodge to clear my head from all the craziness. There will be an "extended post" for those news.

    Announcments

So, one quick little announcement I want to make is that Im planning to add a new page here I like to call:The Detox Files For those who are unaware, I am currently going through a social media detox and I wanted to share some of my experiences of the process of quiting social media. I know for some, quiting social media seems a bit "unthinkable" but I think its possible to break free from the corperate web and part of that process is sharing that journey with everyone here.

With this in mind, Im currently working on my first project for the page with a good "Youtube Subscription Purging." If you remember from 10/5/2024, I did a "morality chart" for my phone apps. I wanted to do the same thing for my Youtbe Subscriptions...turns out I have more than 200 Youtube Channels to look through and chart.

So...it might take a while, but it should still be worth it in the end after all this.

    Other IRL Stuff

Besides all that, not much has happened in my real life. Ive just been working and hanging out. Although, I am researching a lot about social media addiction and living "Facebook Free". Its kinda facinating once your on the outside of all the noise from the phone screen. Also just learning how to build a website is also just kinda fun. Its almost become a new hyperfixation for me.

Well would you look at the time, I guess this post is over. I'll see you here next week to bring more updates and news soon.
